WEAPONS DO NOT EDUCATE, THEY KILL!

“Estudia”, the Education Show which took place from 2nd to 6th April in the Fira de Barcelona, was very well received. It welcomed about 70.000 students who were able to find more than 160 stands there. But, despite the fact that most of the stands were from educational centres, one of the most visited was the Army’s one. Consequently, there are views for and against the presence of this stand.

On the one hand, it is argued that the existence of the stand came in useful to those students who were interested in joining the Army which, after all, it is one more profession. In addition, it is also claimed that nowadays the main purpose of the Army is to assure the worldwide peace, that is why becoming a soldier is winning popularity between young people, every day more and more.

On the other hand, “Desmilitaritzem l’Educació”, the campaign starred by some Catalan NGOs and institutions, whose postulate is presented in their website http://www.edualter.org/campanya.htm, strikes back. They believe that the mission of these institutions is to promote the culture and the coexisting values so, for this reason, they consider the Army’s stand as inadmissible. So that, they ask the Generalitat to ban the Army’s invitation on the following Education Shows. Moreover, they protest against the propaganda the youth received, which created an idyllic image of the military way of life, without considering their role such defenders of economic and geopolitical interests.

To sum up, the Army’s stand has created a lot of controversy. Personally, I think it is not bad to inform people about the Army as a profession. However, what I refuse to defend is the idea of the Army as a way of education or a sort of an NGO because, from my point of view, there is neither Army nor troop for PEACE.

Weapons do not educate, they kill !

- How to cook a delicious Spanish Omelette -

Peel and wash the potatoes, it is estimated a big potato per person, more or less, it depends on people’s greediness. Then, cut them into small square pieces.

After that, deep-fry the potatoes in olive oil. To cook a perfect omelette it is very important to have the fries tender better than crunchy. In order to do it, we have to have them into the pan, on a low flame and also covered by a lid, for ten minutes. If not, the omelette would become too thick.

In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs (an egg per person). However, if you like the omelette more liquid you can put more eggs on it. Once you have the eggs beaten, add salt to them. Look out! Only a pinch of salt or the omelette would be salty and inedible.

Mix the fries with the eggs and let them stand for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, you can chop an onion and add it with the eggs and potatoes. But it is not compulsory; it is on your choice. There is no accounting for taste!

In a pan, pour two spoonfuls of oil. Later, when it starts heating, throw the dough (eggs, potatoes and onion) carefully, and let it brown a little bit.

After a few minutes turn the omelette in the frying pan. Be careful here! To do this in the air is not easy, if you are not a professional, it is advisable to take a plate. It would be less elegant, but safer.

The secret: to be patient and love cooking.

How do you feel about it?

I am impatient and I am not very good at cooking. This is my last disaster:

So that, I would be delighted if you invited me to taste your omelettes.

LET’S THROW AN OMELETTE PARTY!

Bon appétit!

Magic Warwickshire

Warwickshire is a little county situated in the middle of England. It’s a very important because of its history and because is the place where some celebrities brought up. For instance: Shakespeare and Mary Ann Evans.

Warwickshire’s landscape is very colorful, full of different shades of green.

On one hand, Warwickshire presents a pleasant rolling hills and unspoiled valleys. Its land is very fertile and is pretty well-known because of its wheat, beans, barley and turnip growings. And also, a lot of areas are adapted for pasture grazing of cows and sheeps. There, we can find three major rivers as the Avon, the Leam, and the Tame which give the region a mild and healthy climate.

On the other hand, Warwickshire, during the Industrial Revolution, developed an important industrial area, skilled on textil production, whom pollution contrasts with the purity of its nature. This part of the region is more lively than the first one. However, it’s not densely populated and it keeps the peaceful atmosphere. There, you breathe a pure and clean air, you can hear the nature, the sounds of little insects and the birts’ whistiling.

The best thing you can do there is to have a rest by disconnecting of the stressing world. It’s an attractive place to relax, and to take life much more easy. The heart of art and literature. An uncanny place, full of magic and mistery.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

My grandma's life: a difficult war

Josefa Rosales was born on 26th May 1916 in Cordoba. The childbirth’s conditions were very poor at this time, so it was very difficult for her to survive. Her struggle with life started at the age of five when she miraculously recovered from tuberculosis. This fact was the beginning of her battle.

Josefa was nice and very cheerful. She had blue eyes and a beautiful smile. She had ten brothers and was the only daughter. Her family was so poor that she had to begin to work when she was three. She helped her parents and brothers to harvest in a farmhouse where she met Francisco Pérez, a farmer who was going to be the love of his life. They got married in 1934 and two years later, when she was twenty, the Spanish civil war broke out. The Republican people fought the Fascists, or in other words: the poor people were fighting the rich people.

In farmhouses the farmworkers rebelled againts their lords, this way her and her family had to run away. Francisco Pérez, her husband, went to the battlefront with some fighters to defend the Republic and Josefa Rosales decided to join them. She didn’t want to leave her husband alone because she couldn’t live without him, so she decided to risk her own life in order to not to separate from her love.

They travelled throughout Spain and they were fighting in different battles for three years: in Madrid, in Cantabria and, finally, in the Ebro’s battle where Republicans were defeated and she and her husband were captured and jailed. The next month she was forced to see Francisco’s public execution. Then, she lost the brightness of her eyes and her lovely smile.

Despite her love was cruelly executed, she never surrendered. She continued fighting and resisting the Fascist army alone. But two weeks later she realised that she was expecting a baby. She had to give birth in prison and she managed to grow her daughter up there until she was freed a in 1940.

She died in 1962 because of a high fever. Although she suffered a lot in life, she never gave it up and she always fought to feed her little daugter. So, she must be reminded as a strong and brave woman and also because of her continue struggle in life.

How to hit your wife...

Yestersay while I was having dinner, I listened on the news: "A Saudi cleric explains on a Tv programme how to hit your wife respecting Allah code" I couldn't believe what I heard but unfortunately, it was true. Oh my god! How embarrassing! In the Western countries, during the last three centuries women have been fighting against the patriacal society to get their rights. As "this thing with legs, arms and mouth" explains so well on the video (because "he" cannot be considered as a person) they were considered as irrational "persons" who always act using their emotions and because of that they must be under the control of a man: her father, her brother, her husband and even her son. Still today the struggle continues but the situation is not as bad as it used to be. However, Muslim women are in an awful situation. The Feminist movement of the XX century influeced them to start their struggle but their organisations are very weak. On the oder hand, they are under a very strong religious power which they cannot fight because the mind of the society is totally influeced by their beliefs and their ideology, so this way they can't improve the women's situation because people, even women, get used to their social roles. To improve their way of life the Western countries must help them but our governments (run by men) are so coward that they don't do anything. They are afraid of a Muslim terrorist, outrageous attack but what frightens them the most is that these countries stopped to trade in petrol and other kind of products to them. If the government doesn't do anything we must help these women because they need us. They have to make their movement stronger and face the law and the society rules which subordinate them.

Women, you have to fly!

Hope you "enjoy" this video.

XOXO

A flying woman...
